Arabic Language Department Holds Scientific Workshop on Theory of Phonetic Sensitivity in Grammar

The Arabic Language Department organized a scientific workshop titled "The Theory of Phonetic Sensitivity in Arabic Grammar," presented by Assistant Lecturer Kazem Tarish Al-Asadi. The session explored a theoretical framework that links Arabic grammar to phonetics, highlighting the significant role of phonetic factors in guiding speakers’ choices of specific grammatical structures. The workshop explained that this guidance often stems from a speaker’s instinct to avoid phonetic heaviness and achieve rhythmic harmony in speech, enhancing fluency and clarity. It also emphasized that phonetic sensitivity is an innate linguistic intuition, enabling speakers to unconsciously favor certain linguistic structures in response to the auditory harmony they perceive. At the conclusion of the workshop, students actively participated by presenting examples and engaging in discussions, enriching the conversation and deepening their understanding of the theory.
